In Memoriam, Kathryn Reid Kassner

A volunteer at Bay Oaks for more than a decade before becoming a resident guest four years ago, Kathryn Reid Kassner died on May 2, 2012 at age 88.

Born on December 10, 1923 in Winston, Missouri, “Katie” – as she was known to friends – had lived in Miami since 1961. She lived a long and well-lived life and is missed by us all.

Mrs. Kassner relished the active life here – taking part in just about every activity offered. She particularly enjoyed excursions, eager to go to the Palm Beach Zoo, anywhere near the water. With a sweet tooth and a taste ready to try anything new, Mrs. Kassner savored food as she savored life.

We invite you to share your memories of Mrs. Kassner here or via email.

  1. Katie is remembered fondly. She always had a smile and some gossip to share, a recipe she wanted me to try (I still use hers for hot pepper jelly) or one she wanted me to find. She loved — and disliked — fiercely, and if you were one she liked she was forever loyal. She is missed.

  2. There was a huge emptiness at the round table today during our monthly Bingo, snacks and gifts. On behalf of the Carnival Cruise Lines Fun Team, we wish to offer our condolences to her family and her Bay Oaks friends. She will be missed dearly.
